complimentn. someone or something that emphasizes the good qualities of another person or thing. v. to make a good combination with someone or something else.
compliment，称赞, 恭维。也可以用praise来表示。
->complimentarya.
1.given free to people. >> There was a complimentary bottle of champagne in the hotel room.
2. saying that you admire someone or something. [+about] >> Jennie was very complimentary about Katharine's riding.

elaboratea.
1. having a lot of small parts or details put together in a complicated way. >> pure silks embroidered with elaborate patterns.
2. carefully planned and organized in great detail: a very elaborate telecommunications network.

>> The bed was very comfortable and had a nice, soft mattress.
mattressn. the soft part of a bed that ou lie on.
mattress，床垫。现在的床垫一般都是弹簧床垫，在中国一般都把“席梦思”作为这种床垫的代称。席梦思（Simmons）是美国的著名床垫和床上用品品牌，Simmons公司是由Zalmon G. Simmons于1870生创立于美国威斯康星州的克诺沙市。从创造第一张弹簧床开始，辉煌了一世纪的席梦思陪伴著全球无数人度过每个好眠的夜。

possibility
不可数名词，但可与不定冠词a连用，后面介词用of，且不与动词have搭配。
>> A hundred years ago few people believed in the possibility of flying.

>> This meeting is for grown-ups only.
复合名词变为复数形式时，通常是把复合名词中的主体名词变为复数即可。如：editor(s)-in-chief，son(s)-in-law，prisoner(s)-of-war，asistant director(s)，boy friend(s)，fountain pen(s)；复合名词中若没有主体名词，则把最后一个词加上复数词尾，如：go-between(s)，grown-up(s)。
最后，有少数的复合名词，其所含的成分，都要变为复数，须个别记忆。如：gentlemen farmers（乡绅，指有农场但不干体力活者），men-servants，women doctors。

go-betweenn. someone who takes messages from one person of group to another because the two sides cannot meet or do not want to meet. >> A UN representative will act as a go-between for leaders of the two countries.

rise to prominence in, come into prominence显露头角，出名。

>> Many people complain of the rapid pace of modern life.
pace步速，步调，步伐，节奏，也有速度的意思。如：force the pace of life 加快生活的节奏，keep pace iwth the time 跟上时代的步伐。
在作“速度”解时，rate和speed一般可换用，如：The train was going at the/a rate/speed of 80 kilometres an hour.
在作（相对增长的）“速率”解时，要用rate而不用speed。如：At the present rate of progress, our factory will shortly catch up with the advanced factories in our city.

>> The fundamental principles which govern all physical processes are also related to many everyday occurrences.
principle原则，原理。principal用作名词，意为首长，（中小学）校长；用作形容词，意为主要的。
